Fulcrum Looks Forward to Partnership with Bishop-Elect Schuster

March 30, 2022

The Fulcrum Foundation warmly welcomes the new auxiliary bishop of Seattle, Father Frank Schuster!

Fr. Schuster was nominated by Pope Francis on March 8, 2022. He will be the eighth auxiliary bishop of Seattle and will serve alongside Bishop Eusebio Elizondo in assisting Archbishop Paul D. Etienne.

“We are thrilled to welcome Fr. Schuster into this new role,” said Vivian Shannon, executive director. “Fulcrum has always had a close relationship with the bishops of Seattle as we strive to make Catholic education more accessible in Western Washington. Fr. Schuster has always been an ally and strong proponent of vital Catholic education in our community. All of us at Fulcrum are very much looking forward to working more closely with him.”

The new bishop-elect was born May 20, 1971 in Mount Vernon. Fr. Schuster attended Kennedy Catholic High School in Burien, one of the 72 schools in Western Washington that receives support from Fulcrum’s core programs: tuition assistance, capital grants, and educational leadership training.

Currently, Fr. Schuster serves as the pastor of St. Vincent de Paul in Federal Way, the parish of St. Vincent de Paul School. With the support of Archbishop Etienne, Fr. Schuster plans to continue his ministry there after his ordination as bishop.

In a video statement, Fr. Schuster said of his nomination, “With all my heart, I’m grateful to Almighty God, to Pope Francis for his faith in me, and Archbishop Etienne for his trust.”

Fr. Schuster will be ordained as bishop May 3, 2022 at St. James Cathedral.
