Catholic Charity

November 30, 2021

Catholic charities across the U.S. serve millions of people in need each year. These organizations provide essential services from education to housing to food security. A Catholic charity typically relies on fundraising to raise money in support of its missions.

Fulcrum Foundation

The Fulcrum Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Seattle, WA. Fulcrum serves Catholic elementary and high schools in the Archdiocese of Seattle, which encompasses most of Western Washington from Bellingham to Vancouver!

Fulcrum’s mission is to support students, schools, and educators through tuition assistance grants, capital grants, and leadership training grants. The foundation’s reach extends to all 72 Catholic schools and over 20,000 students in the archdiocese.

In 2020/21, Fulcrum helped Catholic schools overcome the hardships of teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic through the COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund. With Fulcrum’s aid, schools were able to offer more tuition assistance, purchase personal devices for students to learn remotely, and provide PPE and cleaning supplies to all teachers. Thanks to the hard work of Catholic educators and support from Fulcrum, Catholic schools in Western Washington didn’t miss a single day of instruction in the first year of the pandemic!

Catholic Community Services/Catholic Housing Services

The Archdiocese of Seattle features several other Catholic charities that provide invaluable services to the community.

Catholic Community Services/Catholic Housing Services (CCS/CHS) work closely with local, state, and federal authorities to provide affordable housing options to some of the most vulnerable members of society. Together, CCS/CHS manage 22 shelters, 17 transitional housing facilities, and 52 permanent housing properties in Western Washington.

CCS/CHS annually serves over 82,000 people through over 170 programs. This charity prepares and serves meals, provides shelters for those experiencing homelessness, and offers in-home care for those who need it.

St. Vincent de Paul of Seattle/King County

St. Vincent de Paul assists and advocates for individuals and families to achieve stability and self-sufficiency. For over 100 years, this organization has served the Seattle area, working to reduce homelessness and provide community resources for people looking to become self-sufficient.

There are several ways to get involved with St. Vincent de Paul. Donors can gift lightly-used furniture and clothing to the St. Vincent de Paul donation drives. The organization also accepts monetary donations via their website.

St. Vincent de Paul also seeks volunteers to help run their many programs. People can sign up for shifts at food banks, thrift stores, or neighborhood-based volunteer opportunities. Neighborhood-based volunteering often involves going door-to-door and working directly with individuals/families who need help.

All aspiring volunteers must create a volunteer profile on the St. Vincent de Paul website.
